I hate telling on myself…

start conference

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Jon Acuff’s START Conference.  Deciding to attend was NOT the stupid part.  The stupid part was all on me.

As many of you know, I had the chance to interview Jon Acuff several months ago and was registered for the conference around the same time.  This conference was born out of Jon’s New York Times bestseller book, START.  On Thursday night, I made sure my alarm was set for 4:30am, allowing me to be there when the conference started at 8:00am Friday morning.  Of course, I chose the wrong route and found myself caught in traffic at 8:00.  Frustration began to set in, but the cars began to move and I could see the exit.  I whipped off the interstate and turned in, probably on two wheels, at 8:18.

I was not sure where to park so I began to drive around the church.  Very few cars were in the parking lot, which admittedly gave me great concern.  I quickly pulled out my iPad to make sure I was at the right place.

I was at the right place…I was simply 8 hours early.  You’ve got to be kidding me.  In Nashville, TN eight hours ahead of schedule.  Took a day off work, so now what.

Luckily, I was able to check into my hotel room way early, and I spent the rest of the day writing.  Needless to say, it was  a very productive day, and the outline for my first book was completed.  On December 21, 2014, the manuscript will be completed.

Once the START Conference actually started I can confirm it was worth the wait.  The line up of speakers was jam packed.  The included Jon Acuff, Jeff Goins, John Crist, Alli Worthington, Dana Tanamachi, Sammy Rhodes, Jeremy Cowart, and Reggie Joiner.  Friday night even included a songwriters night with Dave Barnes, Steve Moakler, and Derek Webb.  When I say everyone of the these people were awesome, that would be an understatement.

Do yourself a favor and register now for next years START Conference, scheduled for October 17 & 18.  Register here.

Have you ever done something stupid?  What was the good part that came from it?
